The top names in golf were competing elsewhere at the World Golf Championship St. Jude Invitational, and Roger Sloan took advantage over the weekend.
The Merritt golfer was in the field at the Barracuda Championship. The event uses the modified stableford scoring format where points are awarded for results and highest score wins.
Sloan battled down the stretch to finish in solo sixth place with 40 points. Erik van Rooyen won the event at 50 points.
The success moved Sloan up to 131 in the FedEx Cup standings, still short of the magical top-125 which secure tour cards.
He’ll have one more chance to enter the top-125 at this week’s Wyndham Championship from North Carolina. It’s the last regular season event of the year before the playoffs start.
Sloan earned $126,875 for his work at the Barracuda.
