Interior Health reminding residents to be mindful during expected heat wave
Much of the Interior is under special weather statements due to warming temperatures, including Merritt and the Nicola Valley
A strengthening ridge of high pressure over the southern interior will boost daytime high temperatures into the mid to high 30’s Celsius with overnight lows in the mid to high teens later this week.
As temperature rises in the next few days, current indications are that the hottest weather is expected on Friday and Saturday for most regions.
Highs in Merritt are expected to hit 35, with overnight lows offering little relief.
Excessive heat exposure can lead to weakness, disorientation and exhaustion. In severe cases, it can also lead to heat stroke, also known as sunstroke. Heat stroke can be a life-threatening medical emergency.
