The BC Wildfire Service is currently fighting over 300 active fires in our province, 107 of those fires are currently burning within the Kamloops Fire Centre.
On Tuesday, a number of new fire starts sparked in the region including a two close to the Coquihalla Highway, both north and south of Merritt.
The first fire, to the north, is listed as east of Mabel Creek and is currently 0.01 hectares in size. The blaze is active as of Wednesday morning.
The second fire is south of town and listed at July Mountain. That fire has already charred 1-hectare and remains active this morning.
The cause of both fires is listed as unknown.
More to come.
