The high taxation rate in the City of Merritt is not something City Council is unaware of and they plan to rectify things.
Mayor Susan Roline says since being elected she and most of council have been committed to reducing Merritt's taxes.
Roline says council wants to keep the same level of services the community is used to and a number of the facilities need upgrades, which council has to keep in mind.
Roline points out that most communities charge for utilities separately, but in Merritt they account for about $680 on tax bills, making the amount look out of line.
She says council is looking at separating them out this year, making the tax bill look much more attractive.

Meanwhile, plans were presented to Merritt City Council last night on a Springbank-Grimmett Connector.
Bovin says consideration will be given to the installation of a traffic light at Voght Street and Grimmett Avenue, but what type of light is still a question.
