The Merritt Centennials are in Westside tonight to take on the Warriors, who have points in four straight games after a 4-2 win over Quesnel on Tuesday.

The Cents have lost their last two outings after a three game winning streak.

The roads and sidewalks around our City of Merritt are sometimes a bit tricky due to snow and ice and the City is advising people to keep things clear.

Bylaw Enforcement Officer Marguerite Kempin says snow removal within 24-hours is well documented in the City but de-icing is another concern people have to take seriously on sidewalks and drive-ways on and around their properties.

Kempin says if the snow or ice hasn't been properly cleared, it could pose a serious liability issue.

Heavy snow and slippery conditions has created problems for drvers on the Coquihalla Highway system this week.

Yesterday afternoon, a blinding snowstorm south of Merritt on the Coquihalla slowed and even stopped traffic in some areas as a number of the big rigs had problems, especially in the area of Larson Hill.

Truckers are reminded that chains are needed in the higher passes and all drivers are again urged to drive to winter conditions and this morning, black ice.

The new season starts in earnest for the Nicola Valley Minor Lacrosse Association tonight as it holds its annual general meeting.

The meeting is open to everyone and features the election of a new Board of Directors.

The AGM starts at 7 pm in the mezzanine of the gym at Coquihalla Middle School.

With just over two weeks until Christmas, the season is becoming brighter with the sounds of Christmas in the air tonight.

Christine Fichter of the After Hours Choir says there will be a few surprises in store at as Merritt Centennials captain Steve Tresierra joins a number of individuals and groups in a gala evening of music and song.

Richter says the public is welcome to attend the concert, which will be staged at the Trinity United Church starting at 7:30 tonight.

It's admission by donation with all proceeds to charity.
