Budget talks underway now in the City of Merritt have taken on a change of format.
Financial Services Manager Marlie Worrin says she and City CAO Matt Noble are working a revised method which involves each department head dealing with them before going to Council.
Worrin says the new method of preparing the budget is designed to cut back on the amount of time that Council has to spend on it.
It's estimated that Council had about fifty hours of meetings under the previous format.
Council must have the financial plan adopted in enough time to set the tax rates and adopt the tax rate bylaw by the May 15 deadline.
