BC Education Minister Rob Fleming has announced a delay in the start of the upcoming school year.
At the end of July, the BC Government outlined their plan to have students across the province return to full-time in-class instruction on September 8, however, it now appears that the timeline is getting pushed back.
Fleming was responding to Liberal questioning in Legislature when he made the statement.
"If that takes some extra time and builds additional confidence and fulfils the guidelines that have been developed by Dr. Bonnie Henry and her team, that's what we're going to do," Fleming added.
An announcement is expected in the coming days with more specific information and the new start date for students, which is believed to be during the second week of September.
"We see an advantage to having staff have a couple of days just in their learning teams, just in their school setting, before we welcome back kids in the first week on a phased re-entry," said Fleming.
