Last week, the Interior Health Authority rescinded a public health order forcing gyms and other personal service establishments to close.
That allowed gyms across the region to begin reopening this week, as long as new safety measures could be implemented.
While Merritt has already seen some of the private gyms open their doors, the City-owned gym at the Aquatic Centre has no firm date to reopen.
“Right now, we’re working at phasing in the reopening of all City Facilities,” said Manager of Communications Will George. “There hasn’t been a set date for reopening.”
City officials are speaking with other municipalities while formulating their plan for Merritt.
Whilst the pool and arena have been shut down, city staff has been able to complete some capital projects at the facilities. In terms of the aquatic centre, the hope is to avoid the usual fall shutdown by completing the necessary work during mandated closure.
