The City of Merritt has declared a local state of emergency.
“This is not a measure that we take lightly, but we feel it is warranted given the gravity of this situation. We are in complete support of the measures the Province is implementing, but as a municipality, we must retain the ability to take swift action, should a necessary situation arise”, said Mayor Linda Brown.
Scott Hildebrand, the CAO for the City of Merritt stated, “our team is scaling back to ensure the provision of only essential services, including fire and new 24-hour policing service, wastewater and garbage collection, communications, as well as the critical work of connecting our most vulnerable sector with supports.”
