Last night Council voted to approve a motion brought forward from last week’s committee of the whole.
The motion on the table was ‘to provide the Merritt and District Chamber of Commerce with funding in the amount of $5,000’. The funds came from the council contingency fund.
“I really like the second part about the primary voice for businesses in Merritt. We need to have a champion for the businesses so that they have a voice when they come to Council,” said Coun. Kurt Christopherson.
While the vote passed unanimously, Mayor Linda Brown spoke about former directors being liable.
“I do believe that this organization needs to go back to their directors who have a legal liability to cover off some of their deficits,” said Brown.
