This week Merritt was buzzing about another lotto win, an increase in assessed property values, and a tragic avalanche.

This week my favourite story was sitting down with Daniel Tkac after his appearance at the World Juniors.

Another Lotto Win for Merritt

For the third time in 12-months, Merrittonians are celebrating a lotto win.

Back in February, a Merritt couple won the big prize, a $25.9 Million jackpot. Then a few months ago Merritt was home to a $50,000 win.

Search and Rescue Operation Concludes, One Deceased

On January 4, 2020, at 12:41 p.m., Merritt RCMP received a report of an avalanche triggered near Cabin Lake and Prospect Creek. Initial reports from the scene had indicated that one person was attempting to locate a second person trapped by the slide. Both men were snowmobiling together in the backcountry when the avalanche occurred.

Five Good Minutes with Daniel Tkac

As of December 26, 2019, no Merritt Centennials player had ever suited up in the World Junior Championship.

On December 27, 2019, Daniel Tkac changed that.

Tkac joined Q101 to discuss the tournament and the feeling of dawning his nation's sweater on the World stage.
