2016 RCMP PIC 1

As crime continues to dominate conversations around Merritt, the local detachment is stressing the importance of reporting even the smallest crimes.

Cpl. Brock Hedrick joined Q101 to discuss how the file can help the detachment in the future.

“We would appreciate if the public was reporting any and all suspicious activity, any type of stolen property. Even if we can’t act on it immediately, even for statistical purposes we can use it down the road,” said Hedrick.

“We certainly want to know about it, even if it seems insignificant. We’ll create a file and look into it further,” added Hedrick.

Having the crime reported will help the detachment present crime figures when asking for more funding from the government.
