Recently, City Staff recommended an amendment to the Council Procedure Bylaw to reduce the number of meetings.
City Hall already decreases from two to one meeting in September for UBCM and December for the holidays. The proposed change would be to reduce meeting dates in July and August as well.
The idea behind the proposal is that City Hall business generally slows down slightly during the summer, and by removing a meeting it would allow senior staff officials and members of the council to take holidays. Director of Corporate Services Sean Smith outlined that this year most of the senior staff were unable to take a vacation due to the busy schedule.
Like other bylaw changes public consultation will be required before any amendments can proceed.
