Rotary Park

Although the temperature outside, around -10, may not have screamed playtime, the City of Merritt held its official opening ceremony for the new playgrounds at Central and Rotary Park on Friday.

Mayor Linda Brown along with some City Councillors, MLA Jackie Tegart and members from the local Rotary Club all gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“What I’m particularly excited about is the surface because this playground is accessible now to any child in a wheelchair or with challenges,” said Tegart. “For the donation and commitment to the community, thank you to the rotary club.”

“We’re are very proud of the Rotarians that came before us, some 30-years ago and saw the need for a park in the downtown,” said John Graham. “I think this is the third iteration of the playground.”

The playground was only brought to life thanks to grant funding from Tire Stewardship BC and a donation from the Rotary Club of Merritt.
