Merritt RCMP Cpl. Brock Hedrick has provided details on a robbery that occurred this morning involving a Merritt student on their way to school.

“The Merritt RCMP received a report of a personal robbery that occurred at approximately 6:15 am, in the downtown core of Merritt,” wrote Hedrick.

A 16-year-old male was on his way to Merritt Secondary for a sports practice and was approached by two males who demanded items from the victim under the threat of violence.

“The victim was unharmed physically and the Merritt RCMP are using all available resources to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion,” added Hedrick.

Hedrick did say while the detachment has seen a recent rash of thefts from vehicles, the latest crime presents a concerning change in MO.
