NICOLA BANDS

Last week, Kelowna hosted an International Indigenous Tourism Conference. Due to its proximity, the City of Merritt was able to attend for the first time.

“We had representatives there from the City of Merritt as well as the local bands,” said Will George, Manager of Tourism.

One of the aspects of the Conference was a tour coming to Merritt to showcase the town to a group of international visitors.

“We had around 84 participants that came,” said George. “They said that they learned quite a bit. The Mayor was able to offer some welcoming comments, and they visited MSS.”

“It very beneficial to be able to bring people from all over the world to Merritt, as well as have a representative at the conference,” added George.

Next year’s conference is set to be held in Winnipeg, and the City is investigating whether or not to send a representative again.
