City Council has approved a recommendation to apply for grant funding from the Community Resiliency Investment Program. Communities can apply for up to $150,000 and Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson spoke to looking for $105,500.

The bulk of the funds, if received, would be put towards fuel management.

“It will help us complete some fuel management projects above the bench, a 17-hectare area above Allan road,” said Tomkinson. “Fuel management is an effort to reduce our wildfire risk to our community and the risk of a crown fire entering the community.”

The funds would also provide the department with the ability for cross-training, emergency planning and to continue the FireSmart program.
