Merritt RCMP Cpl. Brock Hedrick has provided Q101 with details relating to arrest made on Friday afternoon.
On October 18, a Merritt RCMP member was on routine patrol and noted two males in the alley adjacent to Granite Ave in downtown Merritt. The officer noted tools, gloves and a piece of fencing near the males.
The officer detained the two males who are both Merritt locals and known to police. One of the males provided a false name to the officer.
Subsequent investigation revealed the piece of fencing was from the Telus compound just down the street.
The investigation led police to recommend charges to the B.C Prosecution Service against one of the males, a 31-year-old Merritt man. The second male was released without charge.
