Stay up to date with news and alerts for Merritt and the Nicola Valley

It will be a historic day, in the not too distant future, when the five local First Nation Bands, the City of Merritt and the TNRD come together to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

“Coming out of our community meeting with the First Nations, we have an MOU that everyone has agreed to in principle,” said CAO Scott Hildebrand. “So, it’s a high-level contract about how we’re going to work together and work collaboratively and try to do as much as we can for the better of the Nicola Valley and the region.”

Hildebrand mentioned that when he brought up the MOU with Ministers and the Premier last week, that they were extremely excited to see the area working together.

“We are looking to do a signing ceremony in the first week of November. With hopefully the Premier or Cabinet or anybody that can be here,” added Hildebrand. “This is really going to set the foundation going forward.”

A firm date has not yet been set.
