A simple case of shoplifting at a local store has led to the arrest of two suspects on outstanding warrants.
Merritt RCMP Cpl. Brock Hedrick provided Q101 with details on the case.
On September 17, a very observant store manager noted a male and female in his store that he believed might be shoplifting.
The manager alerted police who attended and within mere moments noted that the female had an outstanding warrant for Breach of Probation out of Abbotsford. The male initially gave police a false name and was arrested for Obstructing a peace officer.
The pair were taken back to the detachment where police discovered that the male had an outstanding Canada wide warrant from the Correctional Service of Canada.
A search of the pair’s vehicle turned up bear spray and some other weapons along with identity documents that did not belong to the pair.
Brody Alexander Muncey, 33, of No fixed address, is facing new charges stemming from the incident in Merritt of Wilfully obstructing a peace officer.
