Non-profit groups and organizations in Merritt who look to grants, now have a partner to assist when applying for such funding.
Earlier this year, the City of Merritt received funding to hire a grant writer whose purpose is to help the City and community groups seek out funding through various agencies.
Economic Development and Tourism Manager Will George told Q101 News that the person has been hired and she has been kept busy.
“The grant writer we have is very busy looking for available grants for community, and with that available support we’re going to be applying for more grants,” said George.
George added that over the next year the city will host workshops to assist non-profits in applying for these grants which he expects will come as welcome news to local non-profits.
“Non-profits are just doing day-to-day work keeping their organizations moving forward with programs." he added." Many don’t have the expertise or time to apply for these grants and that's where we can come in to help.
George noted that regardless of where the grant money goes; whether to the city or non-profits, it will benefit the area and in the end, that's all that matters.
Organizations wishing to access the City of Merritt's grant writer can contact City Hall or visit their website.
