Steelhead are thriving again in the Coquihalla River.
Steelhead Society of BC President Brian Braidwood confirms the project to repair the river following a 2014 rockslide near the Othello Tunnels has allowed migrating steelhead to make it down the river again.
Of the 250 they were tracking during this fall's run, more than 200 made it through.
"There was some tagging down and some snorkel surveys. We did count tagged fish, but of course we missed some, but to have that many make it through was definitely encouraging."
The project last year to clear the Coquihalla River was funded by the Habitat Trust Conservation Foundation, Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, the Steelhead Society of BC, and the province.
