A petition with nearly 500 signatures will be presented to the City of Merritt's new Mayor and Council.
Nell Veale is one of several residents behind the petition calling for improvements.
It points to issues last winter in the downtown core, where numerous people, including seniors suffered serious falls.
"It would accumulate and didn't get picked up and then form ice. Then, it would become mounds and people would have to park their cars against it and have to walk over it to get on the sidewalk."
Veale says they are not necessarily looking to increase the budget for snow removal, but instead would rather see service delivered more efficiently, and on a well-advertised schedule.
The petition will be presented and discussed at the next regular meeting of Council, Nov 13th.
