Privacy policy approved, as the City of Merritt moves ahead with plan to install security cameras.

As per the direction of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Director of Corporate Services Sean Smith says a privacy policy was completed, and officially approved at Tuesday's regular meeting of Council

"It sets out how the City of Merritt is going to use surveillance. What circumstances, who has access to it, and what we can do with the information."

The City of Merritt is looking to have cameras installed at both the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena, and eventually the alley connecting the Rail Yard Mall with the Nicola Valley and District Museum, and recently Smith has indicated that there is also the desire to have a camera installed along Midday Valley Rd to discourage illegal dumping.

A Privacy Impact Study will now have to take place in each location before cameras can be installed.
