Motorists continue to stop at Exit 286.
Even though the former visitor centre has been closed for months, City of Merritt Mayor Neil Menard says people still don't seem to realize, as the short driveway between the highway and the gate is consistently jammed with cars.
"I checked it out over the weekend again. My guess is there was at least 30 vehicles, with people walking up the side road that goes alongside the visitor centre."
Menard believes the driveway should be closed off at the highway to prevent cars and people cramming into the short roadway and fighting to get back out.
The Exit 286 BC Visitor Centre was closed by the province in January.
