Expansion of the Merritt fire hall to proceed.

Through the alternative approval process, the City of Merritt's director of corporate services Sean Smith confirms the elector has approved the city borrowing up to $2.2million for Phase 2 of the Merritt Fire Rescue Department fire hall expansion.
 
In total, 555 votes were received, and 533 were deemed valid.
 

"Five were from people not from the City of Merritt. Two were duplicate forms, and 15 were missing required information, that we couldn't independently verify."

556 valid votes against were necessary for the City of Merritt to not proceed with the fire hall expansion.

The 10,000sqft expansion is expected to cost the average Merritt ratepayer an additional $21 in taxes annually over a period not to exceed 25-years.

Construction could start as early as the spring.
