Fraser-Nicola Voter Turnout Improves but Remains Lowest in Riding History
Thanks to record numbers of Fraser-Nicola residents casting their ballots by mail, voter turnout in the riding improved drastically.
Prior to the Final Count, 11,113 votes had been cast in Fraser-Nicola, representing a 42% voter turnout. Thanks to 2,566 votes being tallied during the final count, voter turnout reached 13,679 people.
The number of voters represents the second-highest voter turnout in Fraser-Nicola’s brief history, however, the percentage is the lowest in the riding’s history.
Just 51.6% of eligible voters in the riding cast a ballot this year. (13,679 votes / 26,500 eligible voters)
Prior to this election, the lowest turnout in Fraser-Nicola was 61.5% in the 2013 vote. Even turnout in the previous Merritt riding of Yale-Lillooet didn’t drop below 60% in the limited data available.
