Due to lack of entries, organizers with the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo have announced that the Giant Street Parade that was to kick off this year’s rodeo has been cancelled.
In an email sent to Q101 News, organizers JoJo Massey and Ginger Deleeuw pointed to low registration being primarily due to the forest fires and smoke that have plagued Merritt for several weeks.
The message added that people were dubious about the parade due to all the smoke, and were therefore reluctant to register. ”
“We understand the concern given all the smoke, and although it is disappointing to have to cancel, it is important to provide the community with a parade worth coming out for. “they wrote. “Given the current low number of registrants, it is not possible this year.”
Those entries who entered will receive a full refund.
The organizers noted that the other Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo events , like the Free Friday Night Music, the Rodeo Performances on Saturday and Sunday, and the Rodeo Dance are still on.
