UPDATE: New wildfire spotted in Lower Nicola now being reported as “UNDER CONTROL”

(UPDATE: at 10:30 p.m.) The BC Wildfire service has now downgraded the wildfire near Baldy Creek, outside of Merritt, as under control. The three-point-one hectare wildfire was first reported Tuesday afternoon at just before three p.m.

Two helicopters and two water tenders were deployed to the fire which is believed to be human caused.

Meanwhile there are reports on social media that following Tuesday’s thunderstorm that several confirmed lightening strikes were hit including the NicolaLET tower on Candy Mountain.

(UPDATE: ) The BC Wildfire Service reporting an out of control wildfire  discovered just outside Merritt near Baldy Creek, near the TNRD Landfill station this afternoon is “being held”

The blaze has reached three and a half hectares in size and being attacked by two helicopters and two water tenders.

The situation is also being assisted by initial attack crews.
