RCMP looking for witness of Coquihalla crash south of Merritt

BC Highway Patrol are looking for a particular witness to a crash along the Coquihalla highway south of Merritt who left the scene before giving evidence to officers.

Police officials said the crash happened on July 30, 2026, at about 2:15 p.m. along the Coquihalla northbound near Exit 286, just south of Merritt.

When officers arrived, they found a white GMC Sierra pickup that drove off the road and flipped onto its side. No other vehicles were involved, but the driver suffered serious injuries.

“Witnesses told police that a man driving a tractor-trailer had initially stopped and said he had dash-camera footage of the collision,” says Sergeant Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.

“However, the tractor trailer driver left the scene before speaking with police. His view of the crash, along with his dash camera video, are important evidence.”

Police said the semi-truck was hauling a dark-coloured trailer that may be a marine container.

“If you are the witness who was driving the tractor-trailer, or you know who he might be, please call BC Highway Patrol – Merritt at 250-378-4262 and quote file (2100) 2026-2201,” said BC Highway Patrol officials.
