The Merritt Stockcar Association as had to make the difficult decision to cancel this week’s races at the Merritt Speedway scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
In a statement on social media, organizers wrote that “the Speedway regrets to announce that because of the current wildfire situation, that this weekend’s racing has been cancelled.”
Organizers say they made the tough decision was also prompted because the Merritt Speedway track and many of the racers homes are still on evacuation alert. This as well as the dire water situation, the organization thought it would not feasible to hold the event.
Stay tuned for information on a possible reschedule. All spectator passes will be honoured at our August 22 & 23 event.
Meanwhile, tonight’s (July 30) Music In The Park is still a go for tonight at Rotary Park this week, featuring Spencer Jo.
