Two men are facing charges for an evening break-in at a Merritt vehicle dealership on Friday (May 29).
In a statement, Merritt RCMP officials said the detachment received a report of the break-in at 6:26 p.m. at the Murray GM dealership on Nicola Avenue.
Officers on the scene found two men in the business, one of whom was arrested without incident.
Police said the other man was spotted leaving the dealership and officers attempted to detain him for breaking and entering.
The man became combative when police attempted to de-escalate the situation, so officers then responded by deploying a conducted energy weapon (taser).
Officers were then able to safely arrest the incapacitated man and take him to the Nicola Valley Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
Merritt RCMP said the matter is now before the courts.
“Blake Dunstall has been charged with Break and Enter and Obstruct a Peace Officer, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Dunstall remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing,” said Merritt RCMP.
“Maynard McRae has been charged with Break and Enter, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. McRae was released on an Undertaking with a future court date.”
