Gas soar ahead of long holiday weekend
As many of us plan to head out onto the highway this long holiday weekend, it may be prudent for motorists to shop around for the best prices for gasoline.
This is the first official long holiday weekend since the Strait of Hormuz was closed by Iran due the conflict between the Middle Eastern country and the Unites States and Israel.
The shutting down of the crucial waterway has thrown the world’s oil supply into a tailspin as the price of Brent Crude oil was trading between $108 to $110 US per barrel on May 15.
Compare that to the Victoria Day long weekend in 2025, when the benchmark price was selling between $40 to $45 per barrel, an increase of near 85 percent.
In the Nicola Valley, gas prices range between $193.9 and $201.9 as of 8:00 a.m. May 15.
The average price in the province for regular gas is sitting at $206.9 per litre.
