No fires reported in local area: BCWS

The cool, damp spring weather has kept the number of wildfires in the province at just four as of today (April 16).

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) is reporting this morning that the only fire listed in the Kamloops Fire District is a small fire east of Battle Creek, which is under control.

The large Quilchena Creek Wildfire, which at its peak was estimated at 808 hectares and smaller wildfire near Stump Lake (.09 hectares)  which kept fire officials busy last week are two of the 11 blazes that the BCWS reported have been extinguished.

Despite the cool temperatures, authorities warn local residents to take precautions when burning this spring as conditions change quickly.
