The executive director of the Nicola Valley Food Bank has issued an impassioned plea for help from the community.
On social media on Thursday, Derlanda Hewton said that rising living costs, unexpected financial hardships, and ongoing economic challenges mean that more people are relying on the food bank to help meet their basic needs.
Last year, 1500 clients were served by the Nicola Valley Food Bank which was approximately 100 more than 2024.
She added that for many, this support is not temporary, but part of their regular survival. Children, seniors, and working families alike depend on consistent access to the Food Bank.
Hewton acknowledged that during these challenging times, the level of support has not been enough to sustain the need which is ongoing.
Regular contributions—whether food, funds, or time—are essential to ensure our shelves remain stocked and that no one in the community is turned away.
If you would like to help out in any way, whether through donations or volunteering your time, please contact the Nicola Valley Food Bank at 378-2282.
