A travel advisory is now in effect for the Coquihalla between Merritt and Hope, as heavy rain has forced the closure of the highway yet again, as there is concern that heavy rain forecast overnight may result in the risk of debris flows/flooding, and washouts on Highway 5.
The Coquihalla was closed on Friday as heavy rain brought flooding to some areas near Hope, but reopened on Saturday.
Environment Canada says an orange rainfall warning will see rainfall amounts of 60 mm with 80 mm along the Coquihalla Hwy from Hope to Merritt, as well as Highway 3 from Princeton to Hope via the Allison Pass.
Meanwhile, Highway 1 between Lytton and Hope has been proactively closed once again because of the expected heavy rains throughout Monday.
The rain is expected to ease by early Monday evening as the system moves off.
