Merritt RCMP “Stuff The Cruiser” Toy Drive to benefit less fortunate

Members of the Merritt detachment of the RCMP will be at Walmart in Merritt this Saturday, collecting toys for those less fortunate in the Nicola Valley.

The “Stuff the Cruiser” toy drive returns to the Nicola Valley after several years, and the coordinator, Constable Danielle Orr, says she wanted to bring the toy drive back as a way to give back to the community.

“Christmas is a tough time of year, especially for those less fortunate,” said Orr. “We (RCMP) just want to help in any way we can, and this toy drive is a perfect way to do so.”

The RCMP cruiser will be located at Walmart from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. You are encouraged to bring a toy to the cruiser, and then all toys collected will be donated to those in need.

“Every donation is huge, whether it’s coloring books, puzzles, dolls,  or games; your contribution will light up some child’s Christmas this year,” Orr added.

Other RCMP detachments around the country have been hosting similar toy drives in recent weeks, so Orr hopes the word gets out and the cruiser gets filled.

“Since coming to the Merritt detachment, I’ve seen time and time again how generous this community is when it comes to giving to those who need help,” she noted. “We hope they will show up again on Saturday and help us bring a smile to someone this holiday.”
