Merritt Centennials off this weekend but busy in community

It was a quiet weekend for the Merritt Centennials on the ice, but not when it came to community events.
The Centennials had the weekend off from KIJHL action, preparing for a stretch of five consecutive road games that begin on Friday night (Dec.5) in the Columbia Valley.
Off the ice, the Cents were busy. The team partnered with members of Merritt Secondary School’s Leadership Committee, canvassing neighborhoods, collecting food and cash donations for a food drive for the Nicola Valley Food Bank.
Several players volunteered at the Country Christmas Concert, and then the team won runner-up in the “Most Enthusiastic” category in the annual Christmas Light-Up Parade.
“It’s part of our hockey program here in Merritt that you must get involved in the community, and every player has bought into the idea wholeheartedly,” said Merritt Centennials Head Coach Wes McLeod. “We want to give back to the community by giving back to the community.”
The Cents don’t return home to Nicola Valley Memorial Arena until Dec 20th when the Kelowna Chiefs come to town for a 7 p.m. affair.
