The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a fuel management project located near Lindley Creek Road, approximately five kilometres northwest of the City of Merritt.
BC Wildfire Service crews will be working to burn approximately 50 piles starting as early as Monday, November 3, 2025, and continuing until Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
This project is taking place in conjunction with the Cascades Natural Resource District for wildfire risk reduction purposes. The purpose of the project is to reduce the intensity of potential wildfires in the area by removing forest fuels such as dead branches and woody debris.
Smoke from piles may be visible to residents from the City of Merritt, Lower Nicola Indian Band, and surrounding communities, as well as to motorists traveling on Highway 5, 8, and 97C. Pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favorable. BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control, and monitor these piles at all times.
