Merritt area residents are reminded of the series of “Community Engagement” sessions being presented by School District 58 in the Nicola Valley to update residents of the possibility of school closures within the region.
Earlier this spring, it was announced that due to budget pressures and declining enrollment, the school district would need to cut $1.5 million from its budget and was considering closing Merritt Central Elementary as one potential solution to address declining enrollment and financial strain.
Meetings begin tonight at 7:00 pm at the Merritt Central Elementary.
Similar meetings will be held Oct. 28. at Colletteville Elementary, 7:00 p.m.
Other “Community Engagement” meetings will be held October 29 at Merritt Bench Elementary at 5:00 p.m. and Diamond Vale Elementary, at 7:00 p.m.
