MERRITT — Motorists travelling along the Coquihalla Highway will likely notice a wildfire burning approximately 44 kilometres north of Hope. The fire was spotted along the west side of the highway Monday (Sept. 1).
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports the blaze is visible to anyone driving along the highway however traffic flow is not being affected. The fire is burning at rank four of six with six being the strongest.
Although the fire has burned 105 hectares of forest, it is not threatening the highway, any structures or utilities at last report Monday evening.
It is suspected a lightning strike ignited the fire.
