Nearly one-third of the $77 million the federal government committed to the Village of Lytton three years ago will go toward a new community hub.
In a news release issued Wednesday (Feb. 19), the federal government announced the concept plan for a new community hub will include a community-sized pool and fire reservoir, museum, recreation space, multi-purpose rooms, learning space and accessible washrooms. The government adds the hub on Fraser Street will be fire-resilient and be built to net-zero standards.
The federal government will spend nearly $25.9 million on the community hub, part of the $77 million committed in June 2022 to help rebuild Lytton into a fire-resistant and energy-efficient community. The Village of Lytton will commit just more than $400,000.
“The Village of Lytton is thankful for this funding from the federal government and commitment to rebuilding infrastructure in the Village,” Lytton Mayor Denise O’Connor states. “We have heard from the community how we need this place to gather, recreate and be together. The community hub will support reconciliation; economic and climate resiliency; emergency preparedness and response; and arts, recreation, and culture, and serve residents of the village and surrounding areas for years to come.”
