TALKING CENTS: Centennials even preseason record with a home ice win over Chiefs on Tuesday
The Merritt Centennials have picked up their second victory of the preseason after an impressive 3-1 win over the visiting Kelowna Chiefs Tuesday at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena (NVMA).
The KIJHL’s newest franchise now has a 2-2 record after four exhibition outings so far this season.
The Cents dropped a pair of games to the Kamloops Storm last week during a three-game-in-three-night stretch (6-3 on Sept. 5, and 6-1 on Sept. 7) and edged the Princeton Posse 5-4 in overtime on Friday night (Sept. 6) in Princeton.
Scoring for Merritt on Tuesday night were Nexon Hieberts (1), Lucas Alexander (1), and Deegan Sellers (1). Goaltender Mattias Perron stopped 19 of 20 shots he faced to backstop the Cents to his second victory of the preseason.
The Centennials led 1-0 after the opening period and 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The Cents will look to make it two wins in a row on Thursday when the Princeton Posse come to town for a 7 p.m. contest at the NVMA.
