WEATHER UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Warning and Special Air Quality Statement in effect today

The severe thunderstorm watch that was issued on Saturday afternoon, remains in place for the Nicola Valley today.

Environment Canada warns residents that the region may experience dangerous thunderstorms throughout the day which could lead to heavy downpours and flooding.

The area is also under a “Special Air Quality Statement” as wildfire smoke covered the region in a blanket of smoky haze today.

Those with health issues such as breathing problems may want to limit their exposure outside today.

The weather agency also notes that seniors, pregnant women and pregnant people, infants and young children may also be affected for the 24 to 48 hours.
