Mandatory Water Conservation Notice in Effect for Spences Bridge Community Water System

Effective immediately, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and Cook’s Ferry Indian Band (CFIB) have issued a Mandatory Water Conservation Notice for the Spences Bridge Community Water System. This is due to water usage exceeding current production capacity, resulting in the depletion of the water system wells.
The announcement warns that all outdoor watering must be ceased immediately until further notice. Please note that hand watering of vegetable gardens may continue by hose with a spring-loaded nozzle. Further steps may be necessary if water consumption is not reduced by customers during this Mandatory Water Conservation Notice.
While unrelated, the TNRD and CFIB did recognize that this notice is being issued while there are active wildfires in the Spences Bridge area.
The media release advised that the area within the Community Water System boundaries is currently not at risk, and no Evacuation Alerts or Orders are in place for this area. If structural protection is required, responding agencies including the BC Wildfire Service would draw water from other sources, including surface water from the Thompson River.
