Two new wildfires spark in Kamloops Fire District

The Kamloops Fire Centre report two new fires have sparked in the district over the past 24-hours, bringing the total now to six in the region.
On Wednesday (July 3) two small fires less than a hectare in size were reported near Chapperon Lake just 52 km east of Merritt while the other was discovered north of Kamloops near Jamieson Creek.
Currently all of the wildfires burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre are reported as under control and most are believed to be human caused.
The areas two biggest fires the 205-hectare Truax wildfire near Carpenter Lake and Tiffin Creek fire near Lillooet (151 hectares) remain under watch as is the Scotch Lake wildfire (.009 hectares) and the Allenby Wildfire south of Princeton (.009 hectares).
Currently in the province there are 89 wildfires burning in B.C. with 14 reported out of control. These are primarily in the northern region of the province.
Warm temperatures over the next week is expected to dry out what moisture was in the region following recent cool wet weather in May and June.
Officials again warn residents to take extra precautions when camping or out in the back country. Most areas remain tinder dry and will spread quickly. If you see a wildfire in your area please report it as soon s possible by dialing *5555.
