Temperatures in the thirties cause for concern in Nicola Valley

Nicola Valley residents are encouraged to protect themselves and others as warm temperatures begin today and are expected to remain in the region until at least next Wednesday.
Environment Canada says a the temperatures are expected to range from 30 to 37 C over the next week and is likely to raise the wildfire risk in the Kamloops Fire Centre as drought conditions are expected.
Interior Health is warning residents to take extra precautions during this heat wave.
Seniors are at risk of heat related illness and are being encouraged to take is easy this week, especially if they have to leave the house. Those with respiratory issues are asked to stay in a cool space to avoid shortness of breath.
Make sure to drink plenty of fluids, especially water and avoid high energy activities or if you work outdoors, during midday heat, take plenty of breaks.
If you experience muscle cramps, heavy sweating, dizziness or weakness, get inside where it is cool. If conditions persist, call your doctor.
