Local golfing hero Roger Sloan put four-solid rounds together over the weekend to finish tied for 31st at the PGA’s Rocket Mortgage Golf Classic near Detroit Michigan.
Heading into the championship, the 37-year-old from Merritt was struggling finding his game having made just four of 12 tournaments this season, however, back-to-back rounds of four under 68, on Thursday and Friday ensured he was going to make the the weekend cut. He finished the event by firing a one-under 71 on Saturday and even round 72-on-Sunday to earn him his best finish of 2024.
Aussie Cameron Davis won his second Rocket Mortgage Classic (2021, 2024) finishing at 18-under-par just one stroke ahead of four other golfers.
For his efforts over the weekend, Sloan won $48,583 and 19 important FedEx points.
Sloan is back in action this weekend competing in the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Michigan. Sloan has had good performances at Silvis. In 2015, he finished tied for 18th, then four-years-later, he finished tenth.
Roger will be paired with Americans Chesson Handley and Alex Smalley on Thursday in the opening round.
