Inspired by a series of dreams, a Lower Nicola man is looking to raise awareness to what he calls the fragile state of the salmon industry in the province by walking from Spuzzum First Nation home to Lower Nicola this week.
Montana (Monty) Mountainchief, began his roughly 165 km trek Monday morning and he expects it should take him four days to complete his journey.
Monty, said, the walk came to him in a series of dreams over the past few years telling him that he needs carry a message about the plight of the salmon stock.
He noted that he has been training for the long hike and with the support of family friends he believes he will make great time.
On Monday, Mountainchief said he walked approximately 40-kms despite the first portion of the walk being primarily uphill.
Work N Play in the Railyard Mall has generously donated a pair of quality walking shoes for the endeavor.
Q101 will be updating you daily on Monty’s journey’s this week.
