Merritt’s Cooper Harrington braved the elements and survived a sudden death playoff hole to capture the 2024 Merritt Golf and Country Club’s Junior Golf Championship on Saturday.
Due to wind and rain for most of the competition, only nine golfers competed for this years crown.
After 18-holes both Harrington and Nathan Van Rensburg card 83 forcing a sudden death playoff. Harrington parred the extra hole while Rensburg made a bogey six giving Cooper the championship.
Harrington was not the only winner on Saturday as Kolton Brigden captured the 1st Low Net award after carding a 69.
The event was also highlighted by a visit by PGA professional and Merritt’s own Roger Sloan who met with the competitors and gifted each of the golfers an autographed hat.
Despite the inclement weather, tournament officials were happy with the field, and are looking forward to making the Junior Golf Championship an annual event.
